Dr. Zener, Coach Mazzotta and Brian Johnson, the director of the Theater Guild, attended the school district board meeting tonight and discussed the proposed development of the new theater facility and the football stadium. The football program stands to benefit greatly from this newly formed partnership with the Theater Guild.
The new theater facility will go first. It will be developed and built where the tennis courts are now. Once completed construction will begin on the football stadium. The football stadium’s width will be slightly expanded so that we can accommodate CIF soccer games and so that some of the hazards that tend to be so close to the sidelines during football games, are eliminated. In order to do that, the sides of the stadium will be flip-flopped. The current “home” side will become the visitors side and will be left as is. Our home seating will be moved to the other side where the current visitors sit. Those bleachers will be completely renovated and will be expanded tremendously. It will include a new press box on the top as well. The stadium and theater will share a new grand entrance that will extend to the parking lot and guide attendees through a plaza / courtyard, with a new ticket office that both programs will share. New locker rooms will be constructed so that LHHS, Sonora and the visiting team(s) will all have their own facility.
To top it all off, the playing surface will be replaced with artificial field turf. The timeline for the project to be finished is still in question. But its certainly an exciting time for our football family. There will be more details to follow.
